Tea Farm

The Golden Flower Conservation and Breeding Park is located within the Shiwan Dashan Mountain Nature Reserve, in Guangxi Province, China. It combines the cultivation of seedlings and the planting of the Wild Golden Flower with an agricultural recreational area. It has been designated by the Ministry of Agriculture as one of the country's 100 agricultural demonstration farms for the large-scale cultivation of the Wild Golden Flower.

Character & Aroma

Tasting Notes

Even in the aroma of the dry leaves, delicate hints of honey and dried fig arise, carrying through into the infusion. The untouched terroir of Guangxi’s mountains reveals itself in a raw, almost wild character, reminiscent of raw Pu-Erh teas. As the infusion unfolds, thyme and sage notes enrich the tasting experience, blending with honey and a touch of caramel to leave a lingering impression reminiscent of herbal lozenges. As with the flower buds, there is a subtly bitter, slightly sparkling note in the background, which speaks to the unique terroir and the rare cultivar of the Wild Golden Flower.

Wild Golden Flower

The Wild Golden Flower (Chinese: Yesheng Jinhua 野生金花), classified as Camellia sect. chrysantha (Hu) Tuyama, is a rare species belonging to the camellia genus, alongside the well-known tea plant (Camellia sinensis). It is an ancient plant, as the last common ancestor with the tea plant Camellia sinensis is estimated to be from the middle to late Miocene, over 10 million years ago. As one of the second-class protected plants in China, it is extremely rare with a very narrow distribution: 90% of Wild Golden Flowers are found in the Nanshan Mountain region in Fangchenggang City, Guangxi Province. Traditionally used in Chinese medicine, it is said to have a wealth of healing properties. Modern scientific analyses have unveiled the plant’s unique biochemical profile: its buds and leaves are rich in polyphenols, as well as compounds not commonly found in Camellia sinensis, such as ellagitannins, proanthocyanidins, and derivatives of kaempferol and quercetin, some of which have strong antioxidant properties.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation and processing

The Shiwan Dashan area was declared a provincial nature reserve back in the 1980s, and since 2002 it has been recognised as a National Nature Reserve and National Forest Park in China, protecting the park's precious flora and fauna. The park has a tropical monsoon climate, providing a habitat for rare animals and a diverse range of plant species that thrive in its hilly forests. The cultivation of the Wild Golden Flower is carried out without the use of chemical pesticides, not only for the sake of tea production but also for the conservation of this plant species.

Single Origin

The pressed tea cubes come 100% from the above-mentioned farm in Guangxi.
