Tea Farm

Since 1986, the Resch family has been running a certified organic family business dedicated to cultivating herbs and trees in the beautiful Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria. Instead of using conventional fields, the family relies on their own natural forest, located on barren land away from industry. Their commitment to sustainability has earned them multiple awards, including the prestigious Green Brand seal. More than just a successful tea farm, their work showcases Mühlviertel’s reputation as Austria’s premier gourmet region, as recognized in the "Genuss Guide". The Resch family's work stands as a shining example of ecological responsibility and quality production in this region.

SPRUCE NEEDLES

Spruce needles are the needle-like leaves of the spruce tree, an evergreen conifer native to temperate and boreal forests. Typically measuring between 1 and 3 centimetres in length, they have a vibrant green colour and grow in clusters along the branches. Known for their diverse applications, spruce needles are often used in naturopathy and as an aromatic ingredient. Rich in essential oils and valuable compounds, they are commonly used in the production of tea, essential oils, and bath products, making them a versatile resource with a wide variety of applications.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements. Likewise, all the regions of Japan from which we source our teas are tested for radioactivity for every harvest.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation and processing

The production of spruce needles is carried out entirely by hand in a private natural forest. Fresh spruce branches are harvested from the trees and then air-dried in a well-ventilated area. This method allows for year-round harvesting, ensuring the preservation of their quality and freshness. The meticulous handling throughout the entire process, combined with the unique terroir of the Mühlviertel region, guarantees spruce needles of the highest organic quality.

Preparation

Preparation

2 teaspoons (5g) of spruce needles per 250ml water, 90-100°C, brew for 3-5 minutes

Packaging & Storage

Packaged in an aroma-protected, food-safe, BPA-free zipper pouch. Press as much air our as possible before zipping shut. Alternatively, we recommend storing tea in an airtight, internally coated tea caddy.

Recommended Tea Pot

Ideal is a spacious glass teapot or alternatively, a porcelain teapot with an integrated tea strainer.

Test results

We find it very important that our teas are pure and produced in a way that respects the environment. For this reason, each one of our teas is tested for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory, the results of which can be found here. Some of our teas are also tested for specific nutritional compounds, in which case the test results are also published here.
