Tea Farm

Our pine needles come from eastern Poland, sourced from a nature reserve that spans both the Polish and Belarusian sides. The Białowieża Primeval Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to endemic plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world. There is no fixed harvesting method – the small company, which has been in operation since the late 1980s and specialises in wild collection, sends its foragers deep into the forests with knives, axes and shears, where pine shoots and needles are collected from the trees typically between February and April.

Character & Aroma

Tasting Notes

An enchanting aroma reminiscent of sun-dried summer pine forests. Resinous notes meet a lively, slightly citrusy note, as if the essence of the woodland air had been captured in the cup. Both grounding and uplifting at the same time.

Leaf

Cut needles, vibrant jade green

Cup

Light-coloured, slightly greenish yellow

PINE NEEDLES

The needles of the pine tree (Pinus abiete acus) typically remain on the tree for at least two and up to thirty years before eventually falling off in bundles. They range in length from 2.5 to 50 centimetres and are usually between 0.5 and 2.5 centimetres long, with some species reaching up to 7 centimetres. The pine tree is primarily found in the Northern Hemisphere, although some species have spread into subtropical regions.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements. Likewise, all the regions of Japan from which we source our teas are tested for radioactivity for every harvest.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation and processing

The family-run business has specialised in the wild collecting of high-quality herbs in the Polish forests and mountains since the 1980s. These are gathered from largely natural, untouched landscapes and processed according to organic standards.

Preparation

Preparation

2 teaspoons (5g) of pine needles per 250ml water, 90-100°C, brew for 3-5 minutes

Packaging & Storage

Packaged in an aroma-protected, food-safe, BPA-free zipper pouch. Press as much air our as possible before zipping shut. Alternatively, we recommend storing tea in an airtight, internally coated tea caddy.

Recommended Tea Pot

Ideal is a spacious glass teapot or alternatively, a porcelain teapot with an integrated tea strainer.

Test results

We find it very important that our teas are pure and produced in a way that respects the environment. For this reason, each one of our teas is tested for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory, the results of which can be found here. Some of our teas are also tested for specific nutritional compounds, in which case the test results are also published here.
