Tea Farm

Our Swiss tea producer is considered a pioneer of organic herb farming in Switzerland. Since 1982, this family-owned business has been farming according to organic standards, in order to ensure the highest quality natural products. The company has also been certified organic in accordance with EU standards since 1991. The company has abstained from chemical pesticides as well as fertilisers since its founding. Both harvesting and weeding are done completely by hand. The organic produce is dried and processed in-house. The tea farmer places the utmost importance on adherence to ecological standards, a close connection with nature, and high quality teas and flowers.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas have been one of the most important applications of traditional herbalism for hundreds of years. Hot water helps release the valuable ingredients so that they can be easily absorbed by the body. Each herb represents a unique complex of active ingredients, sometimes combining hundreds of individual compounds. We select only the highest quality herbs from the best terroirs around the world, either from certified organic cultivation or wildcrafting. Our farms are often small, passionate family-run businesses with a long history of cultivating and processing the highest quality herbs and wild plants.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

The alpine valley where the tea farm is located offers ideal climatic conditions for the cultivation of herbs and flowers. The herbs are exposed to a bracing climate 1,000m above sea level in the alps, where they grow slowly and build up a high concentration of nutrients. The farm's location on the south-facing mountainside means a greater number of days with intense sunlight per year and large temperature differences between night and day.

The many herbs on this farm grow amidst the highly diverse alpine flora of the mountainous landscape, and benefit from the many fresh sources of water in the vicinity. The farm is located in one of the most forested counties in Switzerland. The farming practices of this family-owned business take advantage of this idyllic landscape while also preserving its natural state; the farm has cultivated herbs according to organic standards since 1982. As a result of all these factors, the herbs are robust and resilient, and are able to develop a particularly aromatic character.

Despite long and cold winters, the warm sun in the spring brings forth vibrant meadows full of diverse alpine herbs. The peak bloom of the fields is heavily weather dependent and may occur in May or June. Weeds are carefully removed by hand before the harvest, and the harvest itself is carried out using modern machinery. After harvest, the leaves and flowers are gently dried in-house at temperatures no higher than 40°C. The stalks are then removed, and the leaves and flowers are roughly cut before being packaged.

Test results

We find it very important that our teas are pure and produced in a way that respects the environment. For this reason, each one of our teas is tested for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory, the results of which can be found here. Some of our teas are also tested for specific nutritional compounds, in which case the test results are also published here.
