Nestled at an altitude of 2400m in the Nilgiri mountains, the remote Korakundah Estate is one of the highest tea plantations in the world. The Nilgiri mountains are part of the expansive Western Ghats range that span the southernmost state of Tamil Nadu: a prominent region for tea cultivation in India.
Nilgiri means "blue mountains" which is derived from the "Neelakurinji" flower (Strobilanthes kunthiana) – an endemic violet-blue flower that blooms every twelve years. With dense forests and lush meadows, these pristine mountains are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In addition to organic and Demeter certification, the United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company is committed to sustainable tea production and fair working conditions for all employees in the fields.
