Tea Farm

All herbs come from the wild mountain meadows of the Rhodope Mountains. The terroir is world famous as the home of the legendary Mursalski mountain tea, which is also part of this blend. The herbs come from natural cultivation without the use of plant protection products and some even from free wild collection in the mountains. After harvesting, the herbs are gently dried in the shade by the regionally based small family business and processed further.

Character

Flavour

The enormous altitude, the absolutely untouched natural environment, the special stimulating climate, the advantageous soils, the native seed variety, the free flourishing of the plants without any intervention and the selection of the juicy stems, umbels and leaves at the best flowering time lead to a unique aroma and content.
The tea tastes wonderfully refreshing, the mint is very present. The blend is rounded off by the fine honey-sweetness of the Sideritis mountain tea, as well as the full-bodied sweetness of the St. John's wort. The light tart notes of the forest pine buds and wild oregano provide a perfect balance to the tea. All in all, an absolute top mountain tea blend.

Leaf

Beautiful juicy branches, extremely large, full fresh umbels and leaves

Cup

Golden yellow cup colour

Mountain Teas (Sideritis)

The mountain tea Sideritis scardica is endemic to the mountains of the Balkan peninsula (Bulgaria, Greece, Albania). Shephards have consumed this tea for centuries while traveling with their herds. Depending on the terroir, mountain, and elevation, the mountain tea plant can develop a different array of compounds which affect aroma and flavour. The best mountain teas are grown wild at over 1,200m elevation. Premium mountain teas are made from the upper stems of the plants with thick flowers that are hand-harvested and air-dried.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

The basis for this premium mountain tea blend is the well-known mountain tea Sideritis Scardica. It is endemic to the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula (Bulgaria, Greece, Albania). Depending on the terroir / mountain and altitude, the plant forms different ingredients and flavors. The most famous mountain tea in Bulgaria, Mursalski Trigradski tea, comes from the Rhodope Mountains above the mountain villages of Trigrad (population 640) and Muğla in the Mursalitsa region, in the very south of Bulgaria right on the border with Greece. The plant is on the Red List of endangered species in Bulgaria and may only be harvested according to certain guidelines.

Our original Mursalski Trigradski tea grows in its natural habitat at an altitude of about 1800m (cultivation starts from about 1500m) in the best location. The same applies to the other herbs of this highly noble mountain tea blend. For St. John's wort, mint and Scots pine, the native seeds of the wild herbs of the surrounding area are sown in the mountain meadows, they then grow on their own without further processing and are influenced only by the picturesque and beautiful nature. In the case of the Orgegano, it is even wild collection. It is gently taken by hand in the wild by members of the producer's family.

After harvesting in July/August, the plants are dried in the most gentle way in the air, hanging in the shade, and then packaged for us. It doesn't get any more natural or high quality than this.
