Tea Farm

Our tea farmer and producer has specialised in the production of rare varieties of Kenyan teas for decades. The fields are located at roughly 900m elevation at the foot of Mt. Kenya in a pristine natural environment over 100km from the next large city. The fields are not exposed to any smog or other environmental pollution.

Character

Flavour

Multifaceted and complex silver needle tea: both creamy and nutty, yet refreshingly citrusy with sweet butter notes and a delicate smoky aroma. Reminiscent of a freshly baked lemon cake.

Leaf

Fine, yellow and bright green leaf buds, soft fuzzy texture

Cup

Matte, desert yellow

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

About Yoshi En.

Cultivation & Processing

Due to the elevation of the tea fields and the natural climatic conditions, no pesticides are needed. The fields receive plenty of direct sunlight, which contributes to the production of anthocyanins in the leaves.

Single Origin

This tea is exclusively sourced from the above mentioned tea farm at Mt Kenya.

Preparation

Brewing Guide

2 heaped tsp per 100-300ml (80°C) water. Steep for 2-3 minutes. Suitable for several infusions.

Packaging

High quality, airtight, resealable standing zipper pouch with 9 protective layers to preserve flavour and protect against oxidation and contamination.

Recommended Teapot

For an especially aromatic and traditional-tasting Kenyan tea, we recommend an elegant glass teapot from Hario or alternatively a classic porcelain gaiwan.

Recommended Storage

Ideally store in a quality tea caddy made from cherry tree bark (wooden, kabazaiku chazutsu) or an airtight, double-coated metal tin.
