Ikomi 鋳込み
This Kyusu is made using the Ikomi method, also known as pressure or slip casting, where liquid clay, or slip, is poured into and shaped in a plaster mould. The process makes it possible to make complicated shapes and is suitable for producing larger quantities.
Chara チャラ
Unique to Tokoname, Chara is a liquid coating between a slip and a glaze made from extremely fine clay. Once fired it produces a matte finish that becomes glossier with use, while also protecting the surface from small scratches. Chara can be blended into innumerable hues, and may also be used to add or alter the colour of the finished product.
