Turmeric

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), a ginger plant native to India, has been venerated as a sacred plant for over 5,000 years. As can be seen from the ancient Indian scriptures, the Vedas, the "turmeric" or "Indian saffron" was at the time considered one of the most important spices. In Ayurvedic teachings as well as in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the medicinal healing effect of the root plays an important role today as it did then. It is said to have warming, cleansing and invigorating properties. In Europe, too, turmeric species have been known since ancient times as remedy for liver and bladder issues. Turmeric is one of the most studied plants in the world, with scientific interest focusing primarily on the curcuminoids, a group of substances unique to the turmeric root. Increasingly, however, other constituents of the root such as essential oils and turmerosaccharides are also coming into focus.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

Our turmeric is 100% of natural origin. Pure, home-blended natural fertiliser is used to enrich the soil with its nutrients. The turmeric is then harvested manually. To do this, the soil is first loosened and the turmeric roots are then harvested by hand or carefully dug up with a spade. The roots are then sun-dried on 5-7 cm thick layers of bamboo mats or drying soil. This is also meticulously carried out by hand without the use of machines.

All other ingredients in this turmeric blend are sourced from certified organic small farms in the best respective growing regions.
