Tea Farm

The tea farm is located by the fabled Wuyi Shan Mountains, renowned for its white teas and mineral terroir. Wuyi is also home to the famous Yan Cha rock tea besides being the supposed birthplace of black tea.

Character

Flavour

This tea has a hearty, flavoursome aroma, with the instantly recognisable scent of vanilla characteristic of silver needle tea. Despite the aromatic depth and heartiness, the taste remains light, mild and refreshing – a truly unique combination that can be explained by the exquisite terroir of the Wuyi Shan region. An excellent choice for tea lovers looking for a white tea with more substance without losing the typical lightness and freshness.

White Tea

Elegant and delicate, white tea is the least processed type of tea, with the lowest degree of oxidation. It is traditionally withered outdoors in a careful, gradual process and tends to be subtly sweet with nuances of vanilla and a velvety texture. Markers of quality include a high proportion of buds and a lightly coloured cup.

Silver Needle or Baihao Yinzhen (白毫銀針 "white hair silver needle") is the most prized type of white tea as it is only made from young buds, which are still covered in fine, silvery-white hairs.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

This silver needle white tea is made exclusively from the freshest, most tender and fragrant buds handpicked during the first harvest in March. These are then withered alternately indoors and outdoors due to the unpredictable, rainy weather, in a process known as mixed withering or fushi weidiao (複式萎凋). On the first night after harvest, the buds are usually withered indoors for better protection, then transferred outside into the fresh air the following day on stacked bamboo troughs to avoid overexposure to sunlight and ensure even withering. This process extends over several days until the tea has reached the desired level of maturity. Finally, any remaining moisture is removed through gentle oven drying.

Single Origin

This tea is sourced directly from one tea farm in Fujian.
