Character & Aroma

Tasting Notes

The delicate, light yellow appearance of the tea plant flowers can be deceiving, for they contain a remarkable aromatic intensity and an impressive interplay of flavours. With hints of kumquat, blossom honey, and subtle smoky notes in the finish, their distinctive bittersweetness is a testament to their rich nutrient profile. Undoubtedly a fascinating rarity for tea enthusiasts, perfect for enjoying on their own or as an enhancement to classic leaf teas.

Tea flowers

Although the flowers of the tea plant go unused in many parts of the world, brewing them on their own or with tea leaves has long been tradition in some East Asian tea cultures. The blossoms form in autumn, before the plants produce seeds and go into hibernation. In contrast to the leaves of the tea plant, the flowers are virtually caffeine-free and contain a variety of nutritious properties such as saponins, polysaccharides, derivatives of spermidine, catechins and functional proteins that are only found in tea flowers. The flowers also offer a special flavour profile, characterised by bright floral notes, a hint of exotic fruit and a slight bittersweetness due to the above-mentioned properties.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation and processing

The southeastern province of Jiangxi boasts a temperate climate and fertile soil, providing the ideal growing conditions for the tea plant (Camellia Sinensis). The specific altitude of the fields play a crucial role in shaping the distinctive flavour profile of the tea blossoms, which is deeply influenced by the region's natural surroundings and climate. The harvesting is carefully carried out by hand with the support of machinery. This blend of traditional manual labour and mechanisation ensures that the delicate blossoms are picked at the optimal stage of ripeness, preserving their distinctive flavour and freshness.

Single Origin

These tea flowers come 100% from the above-mentioned farm in Jiangxi.

Preparation

Brewing Guide

2-3 flowers, 100°C, 200-300ml, 8-10 min

Packaging

Packed in a high-quality, airtight, BPA-free resealable zipper pouch designed to preserve flavour and prevent oxidation. After opening, press out as much air as possible when snapping shut. Alternatively, store tea in an airtight tea caddy.

Recommended Tea Pot

We recommend a teapot made of glass, in which you can watch the blossoms gracefully unfurl in the water. A teapot or a Gaiwan made of porcelain is another excellent choice.

Test results

We find it very important that our teas are pure and produced in a way that respects the environment. For this reason, each one of our teas is tested for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory, the results of which can be found here. Some of our teas are also tested for specific nutritional compounds, in which case the test results are also published here.
