Tea Farm

At altitudes of over 1100 meters in the Vinschgau region of South Tyrol, northern Italy, this family-run tea farm grows a diverse range of aromatic herbs and flowers. The cultivation is carried out in harmony with the natural alpine terroir, following the seasonal rhythms of the landscape. Certified organic, the farm strictly avoids chemical pesticides. By carefully selecting the optimal harvest time for maximum essential oil content and enriching the soil with compost, the farm ensures the highest quality of its herbal teas.

Character & Aroma

Tasting Notes

The mysterious, deep velvet purple infusion immediately conveys the regal nature of this floral tea. Graced with the grandeur of a fine wine, it boasts a range of dark red fruit aromas. Juicy notes of dried cranberries and a subtle, light acidity set the stage for its deep mallow flavour. This sweet, easy-to-drink flower tea flourishes in the highlands of South Tyrol, the ideal growing region for it to develop its rich spectrum of flavours.

Black Mallow

Black Mallow Flower (Alcea rosea 'Nigra'), also known as Black Hollyhock, captivates with its dark purple, almost black blossoms, which it unveils from the second year of growth. This striking colouration makes the plant not only a visual highlight in any garden but also a prized ingredient in the world of herbal teas. When dried as a tea, Black Mallow Flower is known for its gentle, subtly sweet aroma reminiscent of red berries, complemented by earthy and floral undertones.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation and processing

The herb gardens of this family-run tea farm are spread across several locations at 1100 metres above sea level and higher, nestled in the picturesque Vinschgau region of South Tyrol. The unique flavour of their herbal teas is no coincidence – it is the result of the region’s pristine terroir, combined with the farmers’ deep passion and expertise. The soils have a balanced nutrient profile and are enriched exclusively with compost fertiliser. The use of chemical pesticides is not only out of the question due to the farm’s organic certification, but is entirely at odds with the family's core philosophy, rooted in purity and natural cultivation. Importance is also placed on harvesting at precisely the right moment when the plants contain the highest concentration of essential oils, as even a single day too early or too late can make a difference. The outstanding quality of their herbs and flowers has even attracted the attention of top chefs in haute cuisine, who incorporate them into their culinary creations.

Single Origin

These flowers come 100% from the above-mentioned farm in South Tyrol.

Preparation

Brewing Guide

2-3 flowers, 100°C, 200-300ml, 5 min

Packaging

Packed in a high-quality, airtight, BPA-free resealable zipper pouch designed to preserve flavour and prevent oxidation. After opening, press out as much air as possible when snapping shut. Alternatively, store tea in an airtight tea caddy.

Recommended Tea Pot

We recommend a teapot made of glass, in which you can watch the blossoms gracefully unfurl in the water. A teapot or a Gaiwan made of porcelain is another excellent choice.

Test results

We find it very important that our teas are pure and produced in a way that respects the environment. For this reason, each one of our teas is tested for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory, the results of which can be found here. Some of our teas are also tested for specific nutritional compounds, in which case the test results are also published here.
