Tea Farm

This tea farm is located in a beautiful, secluded area of the Lincang region at altitudes of up to 1800 metres. When the area was developed for tea cultivation, an area of land with more than 160,000 trees was integrated into it, creating a highly biodynamic environment. The tea farm has been organically certified from the very beginning, is a member of the Rainforest Alliance, and has received multiple regional and national awards for its ecological commitment.

Character & Aroma

Tasting Notes

The tea's initial aroma is intensely flavoursome and subtly spiced, presenting earthy and woody notes. Over time, vanilla nuances become more prominent, accompanied by mineral accents reminiscent of the scent of freshly fallen rain. Its flavour is just as impressive: the vanilla notes carry through, offering a pleasantly sweet taste and a soft, velvety mouthfeel. Overall, the tea comes across as surprisingly subtle and elegant – far more restrained than its intense aroma might suggest.

The steeping time allows for fine-tuning: when prepared with water at around 80°C and an extended infusion time of over two minutes, the tea develops subtly spiced and gentle bittersweet notes that round out its character. It can be easily re-steeped at least five times.

WHITE TEA

White tea is generally made from specific cultivars and is the least processed tea (Camellia sinensis), with the lowest level of oxidation. Due to its minimal yet highly demanding production process, which involves pre-drying and air withering, it retains a high concentration of natural tea compounds. High-quality white teas are characterised by a high proportion of aromatic leaf buds and a light infusion colour. In terms of flavour, white tea stands out for its refined elegance and delicate sweetness, often featuring notes of vanilla and a smooth, velvety mouthfeel.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation and processing

The highlands of Yunnan and Lincang have a generally mild, subtropical climate that extends even to higher altitudes. However, nighttime temperatures can fluctuate significantly, creating a stimulating climate perfect for tea cultivation.

This tea originates from southwestern Yunnan in Lincang province, at an altitude of over 1600 metres. The remote tea farm is far from industrial areas and major transport routes, nestled in a picturesque, forest-rich landscape so idyllic that it has become a traveller destination. This tea farm was also the first in China to become a member of the Rainforest Alliance – a pioneering step towards the protection of forests and biodiversity.

The Yunnan region is renowned for its large-leaf cultivars, some of which come from ancient tea plants. The tea garden itself is home to over 160,000 tea trees, underscoring its remarkable traditional and scale.

For this tea, only the youngest buds and top two leaves are harvested. The buds are initially gently withered indoors before being traditionally sun-dried. After this, the leaves are prepared for pressing into tea bars: they are portioned (100g), steamed with hot air, carefully softened, and machine-pressed into their characteristic shape. Finally, the tea bars undergo a multi-day drying phase before being packaged. This particular batch was pressed in 2019.

Preparation

Brewing Guide

1 piece of the tea bar (approx. 6g), 85–90°C, 250–300ml, 1–2 minutes. Suitable for multiple infusions.

The tea is easy to dose, as the tea bar is segmented into 16 pieces (approx. 6g). It is recommended to gently break up the piece before placing it in the teapot, allowing for a more even infusion.

Packaging

The tea bar is packaged in a premium airtight pouch with a zipper and a stand-up base. Its nine-layer coating ensures optimal protection against oxidation and external contaminants.

Recommended Accessories

For preparation, we recommend using tea pots made from neutral-tasting materials such as glass or porcelain to preserve the delicate notes of the tea. A Gaiwan is also an excellent choice for preparation, or for a particularly aromatic infusion, try a Yixing teapot made of natural clay.

Recommended Storage

We recommend storing the tea cake in the original pouch, pressing out as much air as possible before zipping shut. If you prefer to break the cake apart and store it in a container, Chinese tea caddies made of porcelain or Nixing clay are highly recommended.

Test results

We find it very important that our teas are pure and produced in a way that respects the environment. For this reason, each one of our teas is tested for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory, the results of which can be found here. Some of our teas are also tested for specific nutritional compounds, in which case the test results are also published here.
