The highlands of Yunnan have a mild, subtropical climate even at great heights, thanks to the mostly south-facing slopes, where the climatic conditions are strongly influenced by the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
This tea is grown in the Wuliang Mountains at an altitude of 1500m above the city of Pu Erh, far from any industry or major roads. In fact, the Ancient Tea Horse Road to Tibet runs right through the fields.
Only a few kilos of this tea is produced per year as only the very best young buds and two leaves are selected, which are first pre-wilted indoors using a secret technique, then sun-dried in the traditional way.
