Japanese tea caddies, or Chazutsu, are a functional as well as stylish accessory for storing teas to preserve their aroma and freshness for longer. Available in a variety of materials, sizes and styles, the Chazutsu is suitable for storing all kinds of tea and is a must-have for Senchadō tea ceremonies. Each caddy displays the approximate weight of loose leaf Sencha it can hold.

Kabazaiku Tea Caddies
Cherry bark work or Kabazaiku is a traditional Japanese craft unique to the northern town of Kakunodate, where delicate slices of wild cherry bark and wood are glued together to create small accessories, such as tea caddies. Naturally airtight, the bark creates a microclimate that is optimal for storing premium teas, which keeps them fresh for longer and can even improve the taste.

Masterful craftsmanship meets timeless design in these hand-turned wooden tea caddies. For over a hundred years, Gato Mikio have been producing fine Japanese lacquerware in the Yamanaka Onsen hot spring resort town: an area renowned for its Urushi wares.
Keyaki Tea Caddies
High-quality, handmade tea caddies from the Yamanaka region known for its urushi lacquerware. The tea caddies are made entirely of the wood of the rare Japanese zelkova (keyaki 槻) tree, which is cultivated sustainably in Yamanaka, and is particularly suitable for tea storage. The use of several layers of urushi lacquer results in a particularly smooth surface which, combined with the precise hand processing of the inside, creates an optimal microclimate for fine teas.
